I-35 standoff suspect charged in separate robbery

New Braunfels Police

The man at the center of the hours-long standoff on I-35 in Schertz Monday night is now being charged in a separate robbery.

Mugshot of Ruben Ramirez (via Comal County Jail)

New Braunfels police say Ruben Ramirez is the man featured in security video of a Chase Bank on S. Walnut Avenue seen robbing a teller on February 9.

Ramirez was arrested Monday night for trying to rob a Lowe’s store on I-35, leading police on a chase down the interstate highway and prompting a three-hour-long standoff when he refused to get out of his car — threatening police that he had a gun.

Ramirez is now facing an additional robbery charge.

He was already being held in the Comal County Jail for his previous charges.

Police say their investigation continues and other cities and counties may bring their own charges for crimes committed there.
