4th Grade BB Gun Shooting

by Elizabeth Ruiz

Judson School District officials are investigating a BB gun shooting in a 4th grade classroom.

Spokesman Steve Linscomb says one boy took the Airsoft BB gun to Woodlake Elementary Tuesday and a girl fired it.

"Those are the guns that shoot little plastic BB's and she shot a couple of students in the classroom with that BB gun.

Two girls were hit, but they were not seriously injured. Linscomb says one of them had red bumps on her upper leg.

"I believe the other student was shot in the upper calf," said Linscomb. "It did not break the skin, but it did a little bit of bruising and left raised marks on their skin."

He told 550 KTSA News that the boy who took the BB gun on campus and the girl who shot her classmates have been suspended for three days and a hearing is scheduled Friday to determine whether they'll be sent to an alternative school.

"We want to make sure that the proper disciplinary steps are taken so that these students can feel safe and feel like they have a good learning environment," said Linscomb.

He says officials held an intervention meeting with the students in that 4th grade classroom Wednesday afternoon.

"They talked to the whole class about the importance of speaking up when  they see something or hear something that they know should not be happening at school so that these situations don't get this far," Lindscomb said.
