50 years ago Monday, one of the most shocking events in the nation’s history took place on the University of Texas campus in Austin.

A heavily armed man climbed to the observation deck at the U.T tower, and opened fire. The massacre claimed 14 lives and over 30 more were wounded.

At 11:48 this morning, the campus will host a ceremony commemorating the tragedy.
