Adkisson to Challenge Wolff

by Elizabeth Ruiz

A hot race is shaping up in the race for Bexar County Judge in the Democratic Primary.

Saying it's time for new leadership, County Commissioner Tommy Adkisson is challenging County Judge Nelson Wolff.

While both tend to vote the same in issues before commisisoners court, Adkisson says Wolff hasn't been focusing on the core mission of county government.

"At this juncture, what I see from him is not a focus on the gut work of county government. I see it as a focus on the aesthetics," Adkisson said.

He cited work on the Mission Reach improvements to the San Antonio River and San Pedro Creek improvements.

"In a sense, you almost would think we're trying to take over the city because we're doing a lot of the heavy lifting for them," said Adkisson.

He told 550 KTSA News he spoke to Wolff about two weeks ago as he considered entering the race.

"He may just want to stay there for the rest of his life or he may want to put his son into this office, but I'm not going to sit there and watch that or wait for it to happen," Adkisson said.

Wolff's son, County Commissioner Kevin Wolff, is a Republican.

Adkisson was expected to file Monday morning for the Bexar County Judge's race in the Democratic Primary.
