Alejos Ends Court Challenge

By Bill O'Neil

A vocal downtown streetcar opponent pulls the plug on his legal challenge.

Simply put--LULAC's George Alejos told 550 KTSA News he can't come up with a nearly $4 million bond a court said is required to continue the legal fight.

"We're going to concentrate now on getting the neccesary signatures--the 20-thousand plus signatures we need to force the City Charter amendment in the fall" Alejos said, admitting that vote wouldn't neccesarily kill the plan. Ifpassed though, Alejos sid the amenedment would send a strong message.

"The fact VIA insists it can go forward without the City's contribution--we can't stop that--but, we can at least prevent the City from wasting our tax dollars on that boondoggle" Alejos said.
