Big Drop in SA Jobless Rate

By Bill O'Neil

Some very positive signs in the jobs picture--both in San Antonio--and across the State of Texas.

By the numbers, the state's jobless rate fell to 5.5% in March--down from February's 5.7%. Employers in Texas added 9,100 jobs in March--for a total of 310,000 jobs added over the year" said Texas Workforce Commissioner Hope Andrade.

In the San Antonio area meanwhile, the unemployment rate fell a full half-point from February to March--putting it at an even 5%.

Statewide, Andrade said the growth is easy to see.

"Texas employers continue to grow across a wide range of industries--with seven of the eleven major industries adding jobs in March" Andrade said.
