Big Shake Up for Davis Campaign

By Bill O'Neil

A big change for the Wendy Davis Campaign--but many political watchers said the damage that's already been done probably can't be fixed with only five months remaining before election day.

"I think the Davis Campaign realizes that if there's any hope of making this even a very competitive race, it neds to shake things up--and this is certainly one way to do it" said Rice University Political Science Chair Mark Jones. He told 550 KTSA News the decision to pick national strategist Karin Johanson to run Davis' campaign for Governor was a mistake.

"By moving to Chris Turner, Wendy Davis is recognizing that to be successful in Texas, she perhaps needs somebody who both knows Texas--but also knows how to appeal to moderate Texas voters" Jones said.

Turner is a Democratic State Representative from Arlington. Even with the change, Jones said it's unlikely Davis can make up the large gap between her and Republican hopeful Greg Abbott at this point--especially given the need to convince donors to write big checks--as those same donors read what the polls are saying.
