Bus Cams Coming to San Marcos

By Bill O'Neil

Authorities in San Marcos will soon use cameras mounted on school buses to help them spot vehicles that illegally pass.

San Marcos Police Chief Howard Williams told 550 KTSA News the program stems from an eye-opening study completed in that community.

"While covering ten to maybe fifteen percent of bus route time over a five-month period--they counted over two-thousand violations" Williams said, adding the procedure will be a simple one.

"If we verify violations, then the registered owner of the car (committing the violation) will be mailed a notice of violation, and a civil fine assessed of $300 for the violation" Williams said.

The cameras aill be switched on Monday, February 17th--with citations beginning to show up in the mail within a few weeks.
