Call for Improved Space Object Tracking

By Bill O'Neil

A wake up call--that's the word from San Antonio Congressman Lamar Smith in the aftermath of the impact of what's being describd as a small meteor in Russia--it's shockwave injuring more than one-thousand people.

"With relatively little amount of money (we should ) be able frankly to be able to avoid a tragedy or a disaster--because there are just so many objects like this that might be coming our way. We don't know how many--and we don't know when they're coming" said the Congressman who chairs the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee. He told 550 KTSA News he's ready to take action.
"I have a hearing scheduled on March 6th--and we're going to be finding out frankly what we need to do, what it will cost--and making sure that we track these objects" Smith said, adding disaser could be just around the corner at any moment.

"The next time it could be a city. It could be San Antonio, it could be another city in the UNited States."
