Castro Quiet on Cabinet Talk

By Bill O'Neil

His future is all the talk from one side of San Antonio to another--but Mayor Julian Castro appears to be the only one not talking about what could be his next job--in President Barack Obama's Cabinet.

For now, the Mayor said he will only focus publicly on what he has been doing in recent years.

"All I can say is I enjoy doing the job I've been elected to do. I'm going to continue to do that, and have comment later on other things" Castro said at City Hall.

The "other things" of course could refer to the reports the Mayor will be the next Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, a position that is expected to open up when current HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan leaves tha posts and takes over at the Office of Management and Budget. In the end, it will be up to the U.S. Senate to confirm Casto's nomination. If that happens, Castro will become San Antonio's second Mayor to move in to that post. Henry Cisneros served as HUD Secretary for a portion of the Clinton Admninistration.

As for what will happen at City Hall should the Mayor deaprt, the San Antonio City Council will pick a replacement from among themselves--with the next election set to take palce next year.
