Castro Talks Immigration in Austin

By Bill O'Neil

The push for immigration reform--on a par with the Civil Rights Movement--that's just what San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro sees, as the Civil Rights Summit continues to the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library in Austin.

"Of course there are distinctions, it does count whether someone followed the normal lega process or not" the Mayor said while speaking during the Summit's first day. However, he added the experience seen by immigrants through the course of U.S. history mirros the expereiences of the Civil Rights Movement.

"It was about people who were seen as different--and whether they would be treated equally or not. So, immigrants have had--throughout the generations, in that sense a similar experience" Castro said.

The Summit continues through Thursday--with President Barack Obama scheduled to deliver the Keynote Address.
