No relief for traffic headaches on Highway 281 at Loop 1604 for a while.
Josh Donat with the Texas Department of Transportation told 550 KTSA News that Southbound Highway 281 at Loop 1604 and the Northbound Highway 281 exit ramps to Loop 1604 will remain closed until Friday night as crews repair a damaged bridge.
We've got crews working 'round the clock," said Donat.
The problems began around noon Wednesday when the trailer of a semi truck hit the underside of the Henderson Pass bridge and knocked chunks of concrete onto the main lanes of Highway 281.
"Some people may think that it's taking a long time to repair the bridge, but there's extensive damage to that overpass," said Donat.
Traffic is being diverted onto frontage roads where closures are in place, but drivers are urged to consider alternate routes, such as Blanco and Bulverde Roads to reach their destination.
Police will be used to direct traffic at some intersections, but long delays are expected until the work is complete.
