Cornyn Discusses Humane Act

By Bill O'Neil

It's up to Congress to take the lead--the word from Senator John Cornyn follwing the introduction of the Humane Act for dealing with the continuing undocumented children crisis.

The Senator said he understands the President's request for nearly $4 billion to deal with the humanitarian part of the crisis--but also sees something missing there.

"Because of push back he's gotten from some of the immigration advocacy groups, he was unwilling to send over the solution part. All he sent over was a request for money" Cornyn said, adding it's now up to Congress to put all of the pieces together.

"We should appropriate some amount of money--and we're trying to scrub that and figure out what's absolutely neccesary--together with the solution to the problem" Cornyn said.

The Senator also said he's confident the measure he's proposed with Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar can pass through Congress in a matter of weeks.
