Could the A's Land in S.A.?

By Bill O'Neil

Could it really happen? At least one city councilman in Oakland said the A's could move to San Antonio--if the team and the city can't resolve a long-standing--and now ugly dispute over it's stadium lease.

Oakland City Councilman Larry Reid specifically named San Antonio when asked about what options the team might have if the situation isn't resolved soon. Officials here admit it's an exciting idea.

"On the other hand, what we don't want to do is be used so the folks in Oakland can be enticed in to making more enhcnacements (for the team)" said San Antonio City Councilman Joe Krier, who feels that's just what happened when the Alamo City courted the Florida Marlins in an effort to get that team to move west several years ago.

Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff sees it much the same way.

"They're going to have to be very upfront and very honest if they expect any community to take an interest in them" Wolff told 550 KTSA News, adding he has not been approached about a possible move.
