Fatal Accident at Seat Belt Factory

The investigation continues into a fatal accident at a factory in Westover Hills. .

The San Antonio Fire Department got the 9-1-1 call from Takata Seat Belts, Inc. shortly before 9 a.m. Monday.

"They said a man had fallen into the press machine and was not breathing," said Christian Bove with the fire department.

Firefighters responded to the facility on Wiseman Boulevard,but it was too late.  Fifty-two-year-old Abel Rodriguez was pronounced dead on the scene. 

Federal investigators are probing the fatal accident. 

Takata produces 20 percent of all seat belts and 10 percent of all air bags used in automobiles manufactured in North America.

The parts manufacatured at the local plant are sent to a maquiladora on the Texas-Mexico border where the seat belts are assembled.
