Flu Killls Bandera County Resident

By Elizabeth Ruiz

Eight flu-related deaths have been reported in the Beaumont area and one of the victims was from Bandera County.

Beaumont Public Health Director Sherry Ulmer told 550 KTSA News all of the patients had the H1N1 influenza strain, also known as the swine flu.

“It’s been around since 2009 and has been in every flu shot since 2009,” said Ulmer.

She said none of the people who died as a result of the H1N1 virus had received a flu vaccine.

“We are encouraging everyone here to get a flu shot if they haven’t already done so,” said Ulmer.

Meanwhile, A South Texas county has confirmed six deaths from swine flu since Thanksgiving.

Officials with the County Health and Human Services in Edinburg  say  the six deaths  were a result of the H1N1 influenza strain.

Chief administrative officer Eduardo Olivarez says the victims included five adults and one child - age 7. All six victims had previous health conditions such as diabetes, obesity or high blood pressure.
