Gas Prices Headed Up

By Bill O'Neil

Prices at gas pumps around Texas are headed up--as we hear more and more stories of violence in Iraq.

New numbers from AAA Texas put the statewide average price per gallon of regular unleaded at $3.50--up six-cents over the last week.

"Drivers in Dallas are paying the most at $3.57 per gallon (on average), while drivers in Corpus Christi are paying the least at $3.41" said the Auto Club's Doug Shupe. He told 550 KTSA News the increased demand for fuel that comes with the summer driving season has played a part--but Iraq is clearly the big focus.

"Iraq has the fifth-largest proven oil reserve in the world according to the Energy Informatation Administration, and it's the second-largest producer of crude oile in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries" Shuoe said.
