By Johnny Shannon and Bill O'NeilMore than a week after jumping in to the race for Texas Land Commissioner, George P. Bush has made his official political debut with an address before the Texas Legislative Conference in New Braunfels.
"I can't contain my burning optimism for being a Texan" the son of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush told the audience. As an electd official, Bush said one of his big focuses would be on education.
"I've actually been int he trenches. I've taught in an inner city public high school. I've taught in a migrant farming community" Bush said, adding he would like to see social promotion in schools done away with. Another area of focus would be on veterans--and he took a stand behind the Hazlewood Act, which funds higher education for vets--calling for an end to the attacks launched against it by some state lawmakers.

"I think we owe this cmmitment to our military veterans here in the State of Texas--and I think the Legisalture whousl work to stop this (attacks on the act)" Bush said.
While he did stumble over his words, and sounded a bit nervous at times, Bush was able to sound a conservative tone.
"In my opinion regulations and taxation is stifling entrepreneurship--and it's killing small businesses" Bush said.
