Governor Rick Perry is again pushing his plan for dipping in to the state's rainy day fund for nearly two billion dollars in highway construction money. This time pointing to plans for the continued development of Interstate 69.
"I-69 is already contributing to that (the state's prosperity) opening up the Rio Grande Valley to intersate access for the first time. It will spur new growth" the governor told supporters of a push to complete the artery, as they press the
legislature for more cash to get that job done.
"We'll have to delay with our transportation needs if we want to keep our winning streak going--I mean that is just the facts" the Governor added.
The completed artery would run from Laredo through portions of eastern Texas before exiting in to Louisiana. State senator Robert Nichols said the roadway would serve as a key supply line from Texas in to the American heartland.
"If you draw a straight line that goes right along Interstate 69. So the need is there, it always has been" Nichols said.
