We're hearing different takes on opposite sides of the political aisle when it comes to the immigration reform plan being pushed by a bipartisan group of U.S. Senators. San Antonio ara Congressman Henry Cuellar told 550 KTSA News he sees signs of progress in the plan.
"Both Democrat and Republican Senators have gone together--and at least in concept--worked out an immigration reform" Cuellar said, adding "we're getting a sense we're getting bipartisan support on immigration reform."
Still though there is plenty of opposition to be found on the other side of the aisle. Republican Congressman Lamar Smith said he sees more of the same old thing in the new proposal.
"The (Obama) Administration is doing everything it can to not enforce current laws--and until we strart enforcing immigration laws--we should expect to continue to have the same kind of problem" Smith told 550 KTSA News. The Congressman is especially bothered by the part of the plan that would clear a pathway to citizenship for some who are already in the country illegally--a move he said would only encourage more illegal immigration.
"It is going to cost hard workingt axpayers millions of dollars. It's going to cost American workers thousands of jobs" Smith said.
