The U.S. Air Force Joint Base San Antonio said in a news release Sunday that bats have been seen in the dormitory at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland over the past week and a half. Two bats were captured and released into a remote area and one was captured Friday night and will be tested for rabies.
The facility is being monitored for bat activity. No evidence of nesting has been discovered. Officials are sealing up any potential access points in the building.
They are believed to be Mexican free-tailed bats, which are common to the region.
