Local Volunteers Headed to Arkansas

By Bill O'Neil

Four Red Cross volunteers from South Texas are headed to Arkansas to help out in the aftermath of the devastating tornadoes that hit portions of that state early Monday.

Thed volunteers left from San Antonio in two emergency response vehicles--one from San Antonio, the other from Del Rio.

They're pretty much an all purpose vehicle--but the main purpose for the Red Cross is to serve as feeding" said Rafael Aviles with the San Antonio chapter of the American Red Cross, adding the vehicles could quickly be turned in to ambiulances if the need were to arise.

"We were placed on standby knowing that if the clean up were to turn out to be more than they originally thought, we would be sent out" Aviles said.
