It's paying off--the word from advocates after a recent change made at one local pet shop.
Polly's Pet Shop in Universal City raised eyebrows several months ago witht heir plan for dropping the sale of breeder puppies in favor of in-store adoption events. The store has since helped place more than 100 of those dogs with families.
"It's wonderful to get puppies from the shelter in to a new audience" said Katie Jarl with the Humane Society of the United States. She told 550 KTSA News the move made by Polly's--the first store in the nation to take sucha step--is a potential game-changer.
"It's gicing the shelter a new audience of people to market their dogs to" Jarl said, adding the group is working to convince other stores to adopt the same business mode.
