Military Voting in Focus Ahead of Primaries

By Don Morgan

As the primaries approach, the spotlight is clealry shining on efforts to make it easier for military members to cast their ballots.

It's a push that Texas Secretary of State Nandita Berry has taken up. She told 550 KTSA News only a small percentage of the 50-thousand ballots sent to soldiers for years ago were actually returned.

"In 2012, we had 54-thousand ballots issued, and about 60% were returned" Berry sdaid during a stop at Fort Sam Houston.

With early voting soon to get underway, Berry is also taking the time to remind voters about what they will need to cast that ballot.

"They need a form of photo ID to go the polls. It's the most fundamental right we have to vote--and we want to be sure that we're getting the message to voters" Berry said.
