NDO Ballot Effort Fails

By Don Morgan

An effort to place the City of San Antonio's recently revised Non-Discrimination Ordinance comes up short of the signatures it needed.

Pastor Gerald Ripley told 550 KTSA News those working to strike down the ordinance gave it their all--despite having just 40 days to collect those signatures.

"If we lived in Houston, we would have multiple times the signatures we'd need--and that ordinance would be stopped. If we lived in Dallas, we'd still be collecting signatures. But we live in San Antonio" Ripley said, adding "We ran out of time."

Still, Ripley said the effort did send a strong message to City Hall.

"We have received more signatures than the Council members who voted for it received when they wee elected in May" Ripley said.
