By Bill O'NeilThe time is now--the word from organizers of a new grass roots effort to bring term limits to Texas.
"Term limits is just good public policy" said Texans for Term Limits Chairman George Seay. He told 550 KTSA News a recent survey finds overwhelming support across the Lone Star State for the idea.
"80-percent of Texans are for term limits--four to one. Over 93-percent want the right to vote on term limits" Seay said, adding his group is watching two bills that have been filed in Austin very closely.
"One would restrict statewide officials to no more than eight years in any one job--the other bill in the Texas House would restrict all elected officials to no more than twelve years in state government" Seay said. His group supports both measures.
as for the idea an eleced official may be doing such a good job the people keep bringing that person back--Seay said he respects that position--with a but.
"There's a lot more people in that category who've been around too long--and are not serving the state anymore. They're clinging to power just to hold on to power for power's sake" Seay said.
