Planning for Tomorrow's Growth

By Bill O'Neil

How should San Antonio grow in the coming years? That's the key question being asked in a series of public meetings around the region--which kick off Tuesday Evening.

"We see about 1.5 million people coming to our planning region, which now includes Bexar County, and Guadalupe, and Comal, and Boerne" said Scott Ericksen with the Metropolitan Planning Organization. He told 550 KTSA News that leads to one big question.

"Would we like to concentrate growth in certain areas--or just spread it out and sprawl some more?"

The meetings will also weigh what people think about dozens of proposed projects across the area competing for millions of dollars in funding. The sessions begin at 6 PM Tuesday at the Leon Valley Community Center, continuing Wednesday at the New Braunfels Civic Center and Thursday at Woodlake Hills Middle School in San Antonio. Similar meetings will be held Monday, March 3rd at the Seguin, Guadalupe County Coliseum, Wednesday, March 5th at the Boerne Civic Center, and Thursday, March 6th at the Harlandale Civic Center.
