A new report blasts conditions at several private jails across Texas--which are used exclsuively to house undocumented immigrants.
The report from the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas focuses specifically on five facilities--in Raymondville, Eden, Post, Pecos, and Big Spring.
"We uncovered delayed and inadequate medical care, arbitrary and abusive use of isolation, and inhumane conditions" said the organization's Adriana Pinon. The authors said what's happening at those facilities is a symptom of the criminalization of being an illegal immigrant.
"Last year, more than half of all federal prosecutions were for unlawfully crossing the border. That is an act that used to be handled by civil immigration authorities" said Rebecca Robertson witht he ACLU of Texas.
