The San Antonio Police Department said good bye to one of their own Wednesday Morning.

Memorial services for Officer Edrees Mukhtar (28) took place at Porter Loring off McCullough at 10:00 Wednesday morning.

"It's a very sad morning, and very sad event. It's nothing you ever ever get used to. The emotions were very deep. Officer Mukhtar was very very much loved by his classmates and his colleagues. He was a wonderful man who loved his job, loved his city, and loved serving people," said Chief William McManus.

Officer Mukhtar died Saturday evening from injuries he sustained in a December 10th car accident. He was responding to a call when his police car hit a wet spot, lost control, and then collided with another truck.

"You know you're dealing with the emotions of many many people, starting with the family and including your own. It's something that we as a department have to get past once the service is over, but it never really goes away," said Chief McManus.

Officer Mukhtar is of Muslim descent and moved to New York from Afghanistan at an early age. He moved to San Antonio from New York and served the S.A.P.D as an officer for the past 18 months.

"It's a very harsh reminder, on every occasion when we lose an officer, that life is very fragile and it can be gone in an instant. I think everyone realizes that, which is one of the things that makes this so difficult," said Chief McManus.
