The largest-ever Clean Air Act Lawsuit filed in Texas gets underway Monday in Houston.
Exxon Mobil's manufacturing plant in Baytown is in the spotlight, where environmentalists said nearly ten-million pounds of pollutants have been released in to the air since 2005.
"On average, it's happening about once a day. A different pollutant is being released... it's just repeated and massive amounts of pollution said Luke Metzger with Environment Texas. He told 550 KTSA News about 70,000 people living near the plant are at greatest risk, but the pollution has been spread by coastal winds in to central and northern portions of the state.
"We think that if we get Exxon to clean up, it can have a huge impact on refinery operations across the country" Metzger said.
