Support Grows for Ending "Death Tax"

By Bill O'Neil

The push to end the so-called "death tax" continues to pick up steam--with 200 bi-partisan co-sponsors now lined up behind the effort.

Houston-area Republican Congressman Kevin Brady is one of the organizers of the effort. He said he personally knows farmers and ranchers who have paid the tax three times on their property.

"This tax we put in place to pay for World War I--that began a century ago. Today, this law is the last survivor" Brady said.

In addiiton to being outdated, the Congressman said the tax is taking a tremendous toll on those who can least afford it, those who can help the most witht he economy today.

"We know burying it permanently will add nearly one-million new jobs to our economy, and protect thousands upon thousands of family businesses" Brady said.
