Teacher Found Dead

by Elizabeth Ruiz

Students at Allen Elementary in the Northside School District mourn the loss of their music teacher.

Bexar County Sheriff's investigators believe 50-year-old Deanna Tiller was shot and killed by her boyfriend, who then turned the gun on himself Saturday evening at a home on Buck Canyon.

Northside School District spokesman Pascual Gonzales says the bodies weren't discovered until Tuesday after Tiller failed to show up for work.

"Two employees from the school were dispatched to her home to check on her," Gonzales told 550 KTSA News.

Paul Berry with the Bexar County Sheriff's office says the woman's 20-year-old son lived at the home on Buck Canyon, but he said he didn't know the bodies were there.

"He said he didn't have any interaction with the couple," Berry said.

The young man was being questioned by sheriff's investigators.

Tiller had worked for the Northside School District for six years.

"She was the music teacher at Allen Elementary for two years and prior to that, she was at Murnin Elementary School," said Gonzales.

"We're all saddened by this terrible  turn of events and the district will have crisis counselors on hand all day long at Allen Elementary ," Gonzales said.
