It’s time to drag the state of Texas kicking and screaming into the 21st Century. It’s time for the Texas Legislature to approve full casino gambling all across the state.
I know opponents will put up the usual roadblocks. Morally, gambling is wrong. It will bring a sinister, shadowy criminal element to the state. By the way, the criminal element is already here—just operating in other for-profit businesses.
The overriding reason for approving such a measure—it’s a billion dollar industry that sucks Texas dollars into Louisiana and Oklahoma. It’s high time we kept those dollars—and their tax revenue right here in Texas.
Oh—and did I mention it??? Fifty-six percent of those responding to a UT/Texas Tribune poll says they favor full casino gambling in Texas. The people of Texas are demanding it. With a 20 billion dollar budget shortfall, we can certainly use the revenue.
Yep, it’s time to come of age. It’s time to approve full casino gambling!
