Texas Senator Questions Minimum Wage

By Bill O'Neil

As the Minimum Wage debate heats up, President Barack Obama's call for boosting the minimum wage to $9.00 per hour isn't getting a warm welcome from the Number Two Republican in the U.S. Senate.
In fact, Texas Senator John Cornyn said he's very uncomfortable with the feds setting artificial bars when it comes to wages.
"The question is whether it should go to $9.00--my question is why shouldn't it go to $100" the Senator asked. Ultimately, Cornyn said it should be the market that sets pay scales.
"Presumably, people would not work for zero (dollars), and presumably, they would negoatiate a wage witht heir employer based on the skill set they have" Cornyn said--adding the employer would negotiate with potential employees based upon their needs.
