Looking ahead here on 550 KTSA, we’ll be hosting 3rd annual Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner Radiothon on Friday, October 22nd from 6am to 7pm. Last year, we raised nearly $80,000 for the annual Thanksiving Day feast that feeds nearly thirty thousand seniors and other needy members of our community.
It got me to thinking. This event is the poster child of the difference between philanthropy and government redistribution of wealth. In a sense, our last Radiothon redistributed nearly $80,000 from listeners to recipients. No one put a gun to anyone’s head and demanded the donations. No one was threatened with fines and penalties—even jail time—if they didn’t donate. It was all voluntary.
Liberals love government-run philanthropy—they call it “fairness”. Conservatives and moderates believe that individual giving to a cause like the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Day Dinner is the right thing to do. We need to keep the government out of our pockets---allowing us more money to give to really great causes like the Jimenez feast.
I hope you’ll tune in on Friday, October 22nd for the 3rd annual Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Day Dinner Radiothon. Be as generous as you can.
