Another Abortion Fight in Texas?

Here we go again?

Another lawsuit over abortion in Texas is a possibility–thanks to a rule that is set to take effect December 19th–which will require all aborted fetal tissue to either be cremated–or to be buried by a licensed funeral facility.

“This is clearly another attempt to deceive and shame Texas women–and block access to safe, legal abortion” said Planned Parenthood Texas Votes Executive Director Yvonne Gutierrez, who believes the politics surrounding the debate are really taking a toll in the Lone Star State.

“In recent years, Texas has cut funds for women’s health–and, during that period… maternal mortality has doubled in the State” Gutierrez said.

She said another lawsuit is very much a possibility as a result of the soon to take effect fetal tissue rule.

“We are doing everything in our power to protect access to care… evaluating all of our options as they relate to any litigation” Gutierrez said.

She also said the overall tone and message coming from Texas these days when it comes to abortion rights is a very negative one.

“These political attacks have very real, very devastating consequences. Texas is fast becoming the cautionary tale for the rest of the Nation” Gutierrez said.
