Border Group Presses State, Feds to Act on Zika

Enough with the politics.

The message from the Texas Border Coalition to State and Federal politicians when it comes to the fight against the Zika Virus.

“The local counties and cities in the State of Texas have already spent some money to try to fight the mosquito problem–but, we’re going to need some help” Coalition Chairman JD Salinas told KTSA News, quickly adding the virus will not see the Rio Grande River as any kind of boundary to respect.

“A mosquito in Reynosa (Mexico) does not know the Rio Grande River is the division of two countries” Salinas said.

The group has sent open letters to both President Barack Obama and Go0vernor Greg Abbott, while urging lawmakers to stop trying to use the issue to score political points.

“This is not a Democrat or Republican issue… I think–especially in Washington D.C.–they need to really sit down and listen to (people along) the Texas-Mexico Border and try to put some resources in to this” Salinas said.
