Brady: Time to Fix Foster Care System

Congressman Kevin Brady thinks it’s time to fix the foster care system.

“Every year, more than a quarter million children are removed from their home by welfare officials,” he said.

Those children then go into the foster care system, but he said it may not be able to help them.

“They’re often torn apart from their brothers and sisters when they need each other the most,” Brady said. “But is the most severe option always necessary?”

A new bill would allow states to use federal health care dollars for family services to prevent being put into foster care in hopes of keeping more families together.

“And when foster care is the best or only option, this bill is about ensuring the best foster care placement,” he said.
