Car Falls From Freeway to the Banks of the S.A. River

A harrowing story of survival for a woman and four children after a horrible crash on I-10 during the Thursday Morning rush hour.

SAPD’s Officer Douglas Greene told KTSA News it happened when the woman driving the SUV came up on heavy traffic near Probandt.

“Hit the brakes kind of hard, lost control, and struck the concrete barrier” Greene said in describing the crash, adding “Ended up flipping the vehicle over the bridge and ended up landing near the San Antonio River.”

Officers estimate the vehicle fell about thirty to forty feet from the roadway to the ground below. Still, no one, including four children between the ages of three and eleven–was seriously hurt.

“Everybody in this vehicle was wearing a seat belt. Even the smaller kids were in proper booster seats and car seats” Greene said.

All were taken to University Hospital to be checked out.
