Carjacking Ends with Chase, Crash

One carjacking suspect is in the hospital, another is in police custody following a chase that ended in a crash in the city’s South Side.

Police say it started this morning when two men in a stolen U-Haul pickup took a contractor’s utility truck at gunpoint on Martinez-Losoya Road shortly after 8:30 this morning.

“One of the men got into the utility truck and the other one followed him in the U-Haul truck,” said SAPD Sgt. Jesse Salame.

Police were writing up the report when a Bexar County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted the suspects.

“It looked like the utility truck was stuck in the mud, so when they saw the deputy, they took off in the U-Haul truck,” said Salame.

Deputies followed them until the pickup crashed and overturned on Pleasanton Road near Loop 410. Both made a run for it, but they were caught by deputies and a DPS officer.

One was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and the other was arrested by San Antonio police officers. They’re facing several charges, including aggravated robbery and evading arrest.
