Changes Coming To County HR Policy

Bexar County Commissioners Court (January 19, 2018)

A change to Bexar County’s Human Resources Policy got the attention of the San Antonio Family Association.

County Commissioners took up a proposal to add gender identification, gender expression and sexual orientation to it’s non-discrimination policy.

Speaking out against it, Mike Knuffke who said the County is promoting an unhealthy lifestyle.

The associations Patrick Von Dohlen also addressed the Court and suggested the policy change is an attack on families and on religious freedom.

Before taking a vote, Commissioner Kevin Wolff took some time to talk about how it is his job to protect all citizens, not just those he agrees with.

Wolff said when topics like this come up, it’s just a lot of political pandering on both sides and Government should stay out of everybody’s personal beliefs.

He said it would be nice to just be able to say “don’t discriminate” but since people are going to discriminate, there needs to be protections in place.

In the end, Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the changes.
