Commissioners to Take Up Body Camera Data Storage

Bexar County Commissioners will consider a new way to store law enforcement body camera information.

Here’s how it’s currently being done: “the information that we get is transferred over via DVD or USB,” Chief IT Officer Mark Gager told KTSA news.

Those hard copies are then handed to the District Attorney’s office. Under the proposal, the county will switch to a secure cloud format.

“We pick it up through an automated process and, through a secure channel, we move it over behind the Bexar County firewall and we import it into the DA’s system of record,” he said.

He said it’ll be easier for all law enforcement agencies, it’s safer and secure.

“People are afraid of the cloud sometimes, but, to be honest with you, there’s some cloud based entities that are more secure than on-premise solutions,” he said.

Commissioners consider this switch Tuesday.
