Commissioners to Talk About NAACP Convention

Bexar County Commissioners take up a request Tuesday morning from the NAACP.

The organization plans to hold its national convention in San Antonio in 2018.

“It’s quite typical for a convention, that brings in millions of dollars in tourism business, in that competition, those national organizations ask for sponsorship of that convention,” County Commissioner Tommy Calvert said.

He said that’s what the NAACP is asking Commissioners Tuesday.

“As part of the local chapter’s goal, they have $200,000 for underwriting of the conference, and so that will be raised from the private sector and public sector,” he said.

He plans to ask each Commissioner Precinct to contribute $10,000.
