Converse Pushing Own Annexation Plan

It’s not just the City of San Antonio looking to expand its borders.

The City of Converse is exploring an annexation plan as well.

“We’ve always wanted to expand our borders to increase our economic development, no different than what San Antonio is doing,” Mayor Al Suarez said.

His city is dealing with growth, and a recent loss of some real estate to preserve land around Randolph Air Force Base.

“We’re trying to work with San Antonio to kind of make up for that lost land revenue and expand our borders to I-10,” he said.

He said the goal is to expand the border along 1604.

“The I-10, FM 78, (FM) 1516 corridor,” he said. “1604 to I-10, down I-10, then coming back on (FM) 1516, that area there.”

It’s early in negotiations, but he said San Antonio and Converse are working together.
