The Senate’s Number Two Republican is convinced President Trump made the right call with his decision to fire FBI Director James Comey.
“James Comey was a good man who made a bad mistake in the way he handled the Clinton email scenario” Senator John Cornyn told Fox News.
The Senator also calls the outrage expressed by Democrats in the wake of Comey’s firing “hypocritical.”
“Depending on who you were talking to one day, our Democratic friends thought he was a knight riding on a white horse… the next day, they thought he was the evil incarnate” Cornyn said.
As for the next FBI Director, Cornyn sees a very clear profile–if not a specific candidate.
“I think the President needs to find somebody with good experience working in law enforcement, somebody of impeccable reputation and independence” the Senator said.
As for the Russia investigation, Cornyn is convinced that will continue on track.
“Nothing will change by virtue of Director Comey’s termination” Cornyn said.
