Cornyn, Hurd Continue Vet Hiring Push

Senator John Cornyn and Congressman Will Hurd have filed companion legislation to help veterans transition into law enforcement careers.

The bill is called The American Law Enforcement Heroes Act.

“Nearly one-third of all Bexar County Sheriff’s Department and San Antonio Police Department officers are vets, setting an example we’d like to see nationwide,” Hurd said.

Hurd said the legislation will incentivize state and local governments to hire veterans as police officers.

“For many veterans, the call to service doesn’t go away and this is an easy way to ensure that service continues right here at home,” he said.

The bill would prioritize grant money for agencies that hire veterans.
