Senator John Cornyn stands behind Texas’s fight against the President’s actions on immigration.
“This is really more than just about immigration,” he said on the Senate floor. “This is whether, under the doctrine of separation of powers, under the Constitution that we’ve lived under for these many years, gives the President unilateral authority without the approval of Congress, the elected representatives of the people, and in flagrant disregard for the laws that are already on the books.”
He said the President acted in disregard of the laws.
“This executive order is Exhibit One because he said ‘I don’t care what the voters think. I don’t care what the American people think. I don’t care what the Constitution says. I don’t care what Congress says should be the law of the land. I’m going to do it the way I want to do it‘,” he said.
“And frankly, that is scary stuff when you’re talking about the Commander-in-Chief, the leader of the free world, and the sort of power that goes along with that.”
