Council to Vote on River Barge Contract

By Don Morgan

It’s been a controversial issue for City Council the past year or so but today could be the day they vote on who will operate the San Antonio River barges.

The small craft transport thousands of visitors every year, giving them a historical tour of the River Walk.

Several companies submitted proposals but the field has been narrowed down to two.

City Councilman Mike Gallagher talked to us ahead of the vote. He commended all of the parties that submitted proposals and now that they’ve all had their say, it’s time for a decision.

Gallagher says he is basing his decision on the company that benefits the city financially in the long term.
