Council to Vote on Street Renaming Waiting Period

So a street in your neighborhood gets a new name and then there is a push to change it…again.

City Council will take up an ordinance that would create a waiting period for streets to get another new name.

Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales tells us they want to set a five year waiting period in order to give residents more time to get used to the most recent name before it gets changed again.

She says that while most efforts to re-name streets are paid for through private fundraisers, it can still add extra expenses to the city budget. She also notes the confusion created by re-naming streets.

Council will vote on the ordinance on Thursday.
