Council to Vote on “Social Host” Ordinance

The San Antonio City Council is considering a “Social Host Accountability” Ordinance.

It essentially holds accountable any adult responsible for property where underage drinking occurs. It’d be a civil offense.

“We know that this is a good, strong way to send a message about how we feel as a city, how we feel about protecting the community from underage drinking,” Councilman Roberto Trevino said.

Councilman Alan Warrick said parents need to be more aware of what’s happening on their property.

“Any way that we can have accountable makes a lot of sense,” he said. “I think parents, if they’re knowingly or unknowingly facilitating these types of events, will be more cautious and definitely be made aware of the potential penalties in the future.”

It goes in front of the Council Thursday morning.
